Connie Carter, CFRE

Connie Carter’s experience includes 30 years in non-profit fundraising, program development, strategic planning, and campaign management. Her knowledge of how to identify, cultivate and solicit contributions from individuals has helped her clients to reach and exceed their funding goals.

Connie is skilled at developing creative strategies that lead to funding and in working with diverse groups, large and small, with a variety of needs and capabilities.

She has extensive experience in researching, writing and obtaining grants from government agencies, large and small private foundations, corporations and organizations. Her strong commitment to the non-profit sector and her ability to "get the job done" produce quality results efficiently.

Throughout her professional career, Connie has worked with a variety of health and human service organizations by providing: feasibility studies and campaign management, strategic planning facilitation, Board and staff training, grant writing services, and a variety of other fund raising services.

She worked for almost 10 years as Director of Development at the Kearsley Retirement Community, and led the organization’s successful $4 million capital campaign. She then became Director of Development at Camphill Village in Kimberton, and raised more than $1 million annually.

Since forming Sylvia/Carter and Associates in 2004, she has continued her emphasis on the health and human service sector, working with organizations such as Chester County Community Dental Center, West Chester Area Senior Center, Phoenixville Healthcare Access Foundation, Phoenixville Community Health Foundation, and Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy, among others.

A skilled teacher and meeting facilitator, Connie regularly shares her professional expertise with the community by leading workshops and classes for the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, Chester County Community Foundation, and Delaware County Community College on topics such as Grantwriting, Capital Campaigns, Fund Raising, and Event Planning. She brings excellent organizational and writing skills, an ability to “think outside the box,” and a high level of personal and ethical commitment to the work she does.

Connie has a BS degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College and is a Certified Fund Raising Professional.

Corrine Sylvia, CFRE

Corrine Sylvia has more than 30 years of professional fundraising and development experience. During her tenure as Director of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, she worked closely with the Board of Directors to increase its annual fund from $100,000 to $450,000. In 1990, she served as Development Director at WOMENS WAY where she worked with staff and Board to raise $1.6 million annually. In 1993 she earned the prestigious Certified Fund Raising Executive credential and she launched Corrine Sylvia & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in development and philanthropy.

Corrine has worked with large and small not-for-profit organizations providing counsel, training and technical assistance with annual campaigns, feasibility studies, capital and endowment campaigns and targeted development services. She assumed the management of The People’s Light & Theatre Company’s capital campaign, chaired by the late Willard G. Rouse and retired Publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Sam McKeel. The campaign raised $11.3 million ($2 million more than its $9.3 million goal.

Corrine has worked with a variety of health and human service organizations by providing: feasibility studies and campaign management, strategic planning facilitation, Board and staff training, grant writing services, and a variety of other fund raising services. She worked with the Board of Directors of the Rangeley Region Health Center to raise the goal of $1 million dollars to build a health center in the remote town of Rangeley, Maine. She served as campaign counsel for Camphill Village raising more than $3 million for a new senior residence. She has worked on major gift fundraising with Center in the Park, a senior center in Philadelphia.

She and Connie Carter conducted the feasibility study for Baptist Children’s Services and raised $1.5 million for the West Chester Area Senior Center. Corrine and Connie together have served as counsel to the Chester County Community Dental Center helping to raise funds to provide dental services to underserved individuals in Chester County. And, Corrine is one of the Founding Board members of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars to fund pediatric cancer research.

Corrine is frequently called on to teach courses on grantsmanship, building the annual fund, creating major gifts and conducting capital campaigns to colleagues throughout the Delaware Valley. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals where she co-chaired the Essentials of Fundraising Program, training for small non profits. She has also served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Orchestra 2001 and Director of the Historic Yellow Springs Board. Corrine holds dual Masters Degrees in American Cultural History. She graduated from The George Washington University in 1980.
